The Akoya pearls featured in the cultured pearl bracelet were raised in seawater in the mollusc of the same name, also called Pinctada martensiide fucata.

Made accessible and popular by the method patented at the beginning of the 20th century by Kokichi Mikimoto, through which nucleated pearls are obtained, these today represent a precise point of reference for cultured pearls.
